BANKRUPTCY COUNSELING SERVICES
Compass of Carolina/CCCS has been approved by the Executive Office of the U.S. Trustees (Division of the Department of Justice) to provide both Pre-filing counseling and Debtor Education counseling as required by the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act that became effective on October 17, 2005. ("Approved to issue certificates in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code. Approval does not endorse or assure the quality of an Agency's services.")
OUR TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
Compass of Carolina/CCCS has been providing budget counseling, financial literacy instruction and Debt Management services since 1971. Our agency is a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and has been accredited by the Council of Accreditation. These affiliations set forth the highest standards and best practices in the credit and debt counseling profession. Our counselors are certified by the NFCC and are also licensed by the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs. We are also a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau of the Upstate.
BANKRUPTCY COUNSELING FEES: The charge for both pre-filing bankruptcy counseling and pre-discharge debtor education is $50.00 per individual. This fee includes all information, educational materials, counseling time and a certificate of completion. Services are provided without regard to the student's ability to pay and the fees can be waived in circumstances where household income falls below 150% of Federal poverty guidelines.
TWO PARTS OF BANKRUPTCY COUNSELING
THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT BANKRUPTCY COUNSELING SESSIONS AND EACH ONE INVOLVES DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND SUBJECT MATTER. Be sure you are registered for the correct type of bankruptcy counseling.
PART 1: PRE-FILING. Be sure to ask for "Pre-filing Bankruptcy Counseling" if you have not yet filed but are considering filing for bankruptcy protection.
PART 2: DEBTOR EDUCATION. Ask for "Debtor Education" if you have filed, you know your bankruptcy case number and your attorney or the court has sent you notification to obtain Debtor Education (or money management) counseling.
HOW, WHEN AND WHERE TO OBTAIN COUNSELING AND CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION
Pre-bankruptcy counseling sessions are provided in person or by telephone. Simply call our Greenville office at (864) 467-3434 or (800) 203-9692 and ask for extension 3330 to schedule a convenient time for your appointment.
Pre-discharge Debtor Education counseling is available by attending a class that is held the
2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM in our Greenville office. The class will take
approximately 2 hours and PRE REGISTRATION is required by calling the same phone numbers, (864) 467-3434 or (800) 203-9692 extension 3330. Emergency bankruptcy counseling can be scheduled if staff is available by calling the same number.
