Compass of Carolina to offer Divorce Group for Children
Compass of Carolina will be offering Rollercoasters® July 14th-September 1, 2011 from 5:30-6:30 pm.
Rollercoasters® is an eight week class for children ages 9-12 who are experiencing changes in their families due to separation, divorce, or remarriage. Group activities include age appropriate games, discussions, and role plays. Cost of the program is $15.00 per week.
Families First® of Atlanta, Georgia developed Rollercoasters® in 1988 at the request of the local court system. Since then, it has grown into a national program serving the children of over half a million parents nationwide.
Leesa Plumblee, M.Ed., group leader and child and adolescent therapist at Compass of Carolina, says the goal of Rollercoasters® is “to help children understand their feelings stemming from their parents’ separation/divorce. Groups will focus on developing new coping strategies, ways for the children to stop blaming themselves for their parents’ problems, and learning how not to get caught in the middle of parental conflicts.”
To enroll in Rollercoasters®, contact Nicole Sheppard at 467-3434, ext. 3328. Deadline for registration is July 11, 2011. A $30 dollar deposit towards the cost of the group is required at the time of registration.
