Responsibilities of a Representative Payee

  • Determine the beneficiary's current needs for day-to-day living
  • Save funds that are not needed for current expenses
  • Account for all benefits received
  • Report any changes that may affect the beneficiary's eligibility
  • Complete forms for :
    Annual accounting
    Periodic reviews of Supplemental Security Income eligibility
    Continuing disability reviews

  • Have the beneficiary's check deposited into a special representative payee account
  • Return conserved funds to the Federal source when no longer serving as representative payee
