Representative Payee Programs

Who Needs a Representative Payee?

Beneficiaries who are unable to manage or direct the management of their money need a representative payee. These beneficiaries fall into three categories:

  • Minor children
  • Adults deemed legally incompetent by physician (must have form SSA-787 completed by physician)
  • Adult beneficiaries Social Security or Veterans Administration has determined are incapable of handling their money
